Bafang BBSHD Replacement Chainring – 42T / 44T / 46T
Replacing a worn or damaged chainring on your Bafang BBSHD mid-drive motor?
This replacement chainwheel is available in 42T, 44T and 46T options, allowing
you to choose the tooth count that better matches your existing setup and riding needs.
This listing is intended for Bafang BBSHD motor systems.
Please confirm your motor model and compare the mounting design with your
existing chainring before ordering.
Compatibility

| Part Type | Front Chainring / Chainwheel |
| Application | Replacement or drivetrain setup change for compatible BBSHD systems |
42T vs 44T vs 46T – Which BBSHD Chainring Should You Choose?
Changing the number of teeth changes the bike’s gearing.
A smaller front chainring generally gives lower gearing, while a larger
front chainring gives higher gearing.
| Size | General Gearing Character | Best Starting Point |
| 42T | Lower gearing than 44T or 46T | Riders looking for a smaller front chainring or lower gearing |
| 44T | Middle option between 42T and 46T | A balanced replacement when you do not want a large gearing change |
| 46T | Higher gearing than 42T or 44T | Riders replacing a similar-size chainring or preferring higher gearing |
Important: tooth count is only one part of chainring selection.
Frame clearance and chainline can also affect fitment. If you are replacing
an existing chainring and are unsure, the safest option is to compare your
current chainring size and mounting position before ordering.
Before You Order
- Confirm that your motor is a Bafang BBSHD.
- Check the tooth count stamped or marked on your existing chainring.
- Compare the mounting shape with the product photos.
- Check frame and chainstay clearance if changing to a different chainring size.
- Do not choose only by motor wattage — confirm the actual BBSHD motor model.
Not sure? Send us a clear photo of your Bafang motor
and existing chainring before ordering. We can help you compare the part.
Why Chainring Size Matters
The BBSHD is a mid-drive system, so front chainring size directly affects
the drivetrain gearing used together with your rear cassette or freewheel.
Moving to a smaller tooth count lowers the front gearing, while increasing
the tooth count raises it. Actual riding performance will also depend on
wheel size, rear gearing, bike weight, terrain and motor setup.
Installation Notes
- Switch off the e-bike and disconnect the battery before working on the drivetrain.
- Remove the crank and existing chainring according to your BBSHD installation setup.
- Compare the replacement chainring with the original before final installation.
- Check that the chainring rotates without contacting the frame or chainstay.
- Check chain alignment before riding under motor power.
- After installation, rotate the drivetrain manually and confirm smooth chain movement.
If the chainring or chain contacts the frame, or the chainline becomes
significantly misaligned, stop and check the installation before riding.
Common BBSHD Chainring Questions
Is this chainring for BBS01 or BBS02?
This product listing is for the Bafang BBSHD motor.
Do not order based only on the Bafang brand name.
If you have a BBS01 or BBS02 motor, choose a replacement specifically
matched to that motor and mounting system.
Should I choose 42T, 44T or 46T?
If you are simply replacing a damaged chainring and were satisfied with
your current gearing, matching the original tooth count is usually the
simplest starting point.
If you intentionally want to change gearing, a smaller front chainring
provides lower gearing while a larger chainring provides higher gearing.
Always check frame clearance and chainline before changing sizes.
Will changing from 46T to 42T give me more climbing ability?
A 42T front chainring creates lower gearing than a 46T when the other
drivetrain components remain the same. However, actual performance depends
on the complete bike setup, including the rear cassette, wheel size,
terrain and total load.
How do I know whether the chainring will fit my bike frame?
Motor compatibility does not guarantee identical frame clearance on every
bike. Compare the installed position of your current chainring and check
the available space around the chainstay before changing chainring size.
What should I send if I need help checking compatibility?
Please send a clear photo of the motor model marking, the existing
chainring and a side view showing the chainring and chainstay.
These photos make it much easier to compare the setup before ordering.
